Will your AED be used in a dusty or humid environment?

Would you like to be able to use one set of electrodes on your AED for both children and adults?

Do you want a bilingual device?

How to choose your defibrillator (AED)

Our guide asks you three questions to find the right AED for your setting. Here is why they matter.

The environment

An AED installed in an arena, on a construction site, in a garage or near a pool must withstand water and dust. This resistance is measured by the IP rating: the higher it is, the better the device is protected. For an office or a school, a standard rating is enough.

Adults and children

Some AEDs use the same pads for adults and children. Others require pediatric pads or a pediatric key. In a school, a daycare or a sports centre, an adult-and-child solution avoids losing precious time.

Bilingual or single-language

The AED guides the rescuer by voice, step by step. Where French and English speakers work side by side, a bilingual device lets everyone follow the prompts in their own language.

Other criteria

Semi-automatic or fully automatic?

A semi-automatic AED asks you to press a button to deliver the shock; a fully automatic one delivers it on its own after a warning. Both are designed for use by the general public.

What is CPR feedback?

Some models tell you in real time whether your compressions are deep enough and fast enough. It is a real plus for an inexperienced rescuer.

How much does AED maintenance cost?

Pads and batteries have an expiry date and must be replaced. Compare their price and lifespan, not just the price of the device.

New or recertified?

A recertified AED from the Encore Series costs less than a new device and goes through a ten-point inspection before being put back into service.

What do you need for installation?

Plan for a wall cabinet or a carrying case, and a sign so everyone knows where to find the device in an emergency.
